A portrait from 2001 of three Changeling characters. It's my best piece of art from that time, but even so I'm happy to see that I've developed since then.
I like the sort of monochromatic sketches and text in the background, as it gives the piece the look of a field guide or a who's who sort of book.
My younger sister would probably really like this, btw....it looks like her cup of tea all over.
Now, for a couple of nitpicks: the shoulders on your characters are wider than their hips, which isn't so bad on the guys, but looks a little odd on the female character. The body proportions seem to be fairly consistent though. Your male chars both have their chins sweep up to their ears, without really defining a jaw bone. This could be stylistic, so I'm not gonna fault you too much for it. The colours used are a little flat--or perhaps a little too pure. The highlights and shadows are just dark values of the same hue, instead of reflecting the colour of the light hitting them. (I'd suggest varying your shadow and highlight colours a little more to avoid this. Don't dodge or burn highlights if you can help it--painted shadows and highlights with varying levels of opacity work much better usually. More like what you did with the secondary rim source lighting on the female character.)
Pluses: There's a certain amount of personality embued in these characters, and despite their disparity, they still seem to fit together. It seems like you had a lot of fun with them. The colour choices you have for their designs work well together--just need to be given a little depth and minor variation so they don't seem so flat. And you did a good job on her hair. (It looks as if you might have used the dodge tool there, but that's one of the places it tends to work better.)
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

Good job, keep up the artwork.

Bluntness engages the strong and enrages the weak. If I have overestimated you, I deeply apologize.
I think I remember sending you an e-mail about this piece: it's what inspired my two in-the-works novels, an entire fantasy world, and my muse. XD
Great job, Mike! I am forever in your debt!
