My strongest and fondest summer memory is from Japan 2003, when I went to Kamakura and saw Mt. Fuji from the beach near there, and swam in the Pacific ocean for the first time. I managed to capture some of the feeling in a photo of the beach at sunset with a cloud-veiled Fuji in the background. I drew this picture based on those and a few other summer memories.
With this picture, I also wanted to practise drawing backgrounds. I've read the advice that you shouldn't think of them as backgrounds, but as environments. The former is tedious, the latter has character. I think it helps.
Haha, before I even looked at the description I was like "wow, that looks like Shonan" (ie Kamakura). Nice capture of the feel of that area.
